What is a Zodiac?

A Zodiac is an inflatable boat made of tough layers of rubber.  Approximately 12 passengers can sit comfortably in a Zodiac.  Passengers sit on the side pontoons of the boat. 

All passengers wear personal flotation devices while in the boats or near the shore.  The Zodiacs have an outboard motor that is controlled by your experienced staff member on board. 

The Zodiacs allow us to access bays and coves where the ship cannot travel. This means we can visit leopard seals resting on sea ice, be close enough to whales to hear them breathing and admire ice berg galleries and glaciers from water level!  Zodiacs give us a 360° view of our surroundings and are a safe and secure way to travel. 

Throughout cruises in zodiacs your driver-staff member will also offer you interesting information about the site you are visiting and/or the wildlife you are seeing.
